Pakistan Arrests 179 Afghans for Illegal Border Crossing

ISLAMABAD: In a major security drive during the holy month of Ramadan, Pakistani authorities have launched a widespread joint crackdown targeting illegally residing Afghan citizens and bolstering security across several key cities. The operation, which mobilized over 2,000 personnel, involved a coordinated effort by police, Pakistan Rangers, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), and intelligence agencies.

Officials confirmed that the joint search and combing operations were concentrated in the federal capital, Islamabad, as well as Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, and Chakwal. In addition to the search operations, security around mosques has been significantly tightened to ensure the safety of worshippers during Ramadan prayers.

The authorities have adopted a clear stance, emphasizing that the state’s writ will be further strengthened throughout the region. They assured that citizens and foreign nationals residing in the country with valid legal documentation would not face any trouble or harassment during the drive.

According to details provided by security officials, the operation in the Dinah area of Jhelum was particularly intensive. Late at night, security forces searched 25 houses, checked the documents of 62 individuals, and conducted full security profiling of 18 residents. Similarly, in the Tarnol area of Islamabad, dozens of locations were investigated. Simultaneous search operations were also carried out at five different points in Attock district.

In Chakwal, the operation saw the participation of lady police personnel. During the search of 47 houses, shops, and vehicles, the documents of 98 people were thoroughly checked. Meanwhile, security and surveillance have been further intensified in the hill station of Murree during Ramadan.

Security agencies have stated that these search and combing operations are not a one-off measure and will continue in the future. The primary objectives, they said, are to maintain the law and order situation and to eliminate illegal activities from the region
