Fire erupts in Karachi building, 100 rescued

KARACHI: Major Fire Breaks Out at Residential Tower Near Baloch Colony Bridge, 100 Evacuated

A massive fire erupted in the basement of an eight-storey residential building near Baloch Colony Bridge on Thursday Night, prompting a large-scale rescue operation. Rescue officials confirmed that the blaze originated in the parking area, where a generator was also located, sending thick plumes of smoke billowing through the upper floors.

Emergency services responded swiftly, dispatching four fire brigade vehicles and two snorkels to the scene. Firefighters are working to douse the flames and prevent them from spreading to other parts of the structure. The building houses four flats on each floor, and authorities are prioritizing the safe evacuation of residents still trapped inside.

According to rescue officials present at the site, at least 100 individuals have been successfully evacuated so far. “The operation is ongoing, and teams are systematically checking each floor,” a spokesperson said. No casualties have been reported yet, though concerns remain for residents who may be stranded in smoke-filled corridors.

The cause of the fire has not been officially determined, but initial reports suggest it may have been triggered by an electrical fault in the generator or wiring within the basement parking lot. Witnesses described scenes of panic as families rushed out of the building, some covering their faces with cloth to avoid inhaling smoke.

Traffic in the vicinity of Baloch Colony Bridge has been affected as emergency vehicles remain stationed at the location. Authorities have cordoned off the area to facilitate rescue and cooling operations. Senior police and administration officials have also arrived to oversee the response.

Further details are awaited as firefighters continue their efforts to fully control the blaze.
