Islamabad: The US Treasury Secretary has acknowledged that the United States played a direct role in causing a shortage of dollars and triggering an economic crisis in Iran.

According to media reports, during a briefing to the US House of Representatives on Iran, Treasury Secretary Katie Elizabeth stated that economic pressure was deliberately intensified on Iran to create a crisis, which paved the way for violent protests in the country.

According to US media, the Treasury Secretary explained that pressure was increased on the Iranian rial against the US dollar.

As a result, Iran’s central bank was forced to print large amounts of currency notes, causing the rial’s value to plummet dramatically and leading to runaway inflation in Iran.

Continuing this pressure policy, the United States also reduced Iran’s oil exports to zero, which severely worsened the economic crisis in the country.

The report further stated that nationwide protests erupted in Iran in December. Agents of Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad reportedly infiltrated these demonstrators and exploited the anger of the protesters to incite violence.

According to the report, these Mossad-linked individuals carried out attacks on security forces, ordinary civilians, mosques, and government buildings under the cover of the protests, resulting in the deaths of more than 3,500 people, including security personnel.
