Bangladesh Cricket Chief lands in Pakistan as ICC talks loom

LAHORE: The intense attention within international cricket circles, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chairman Aminul Islam has arrived in Pakistan to take part in a series of critical engagements linked to an emergency meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The visit has been kept deliberately low-profile, officials familiar with the matter suggest that the timing and context of Islam’s arrival have added fresh intrigue to an already sensitive situation surrounding the upcoming T20 World Cup.

The BCB chairman is expected to be involved in key discussions connected to the ICC’s emergency consultations, which are being closely watched by several member boards. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the ICC will participate in the emergency meeting online. On the sidelines, Aminul Islam is also expected to meet PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi in Lahore.

The meeting is likely to include an in-depth exchange of views on the evolving T20 World Cup scenario, along with broader cricket-related matters of mutual interest. The presence of the Bangladesh cricket chief in Pakistan has fueled speculation about behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts and coordination among member boards.

The backdrop to these developments includes Bangladesh’s earlier request to have its T20 World Cup matches relocated from India to Sri Lanka due to security concerns, a request that was not accepted by the ICC. Pakistan, meanwhile, has publicly expressed solidarity with Bangladesh over the matter and has lodged a formal protest.

The PCB has also announced its decision to boycott a scheduled group match against India on February 15 as a mark of protest, a move that has added another layer of complexity to the situation.
