ISLAMABAD: Senior Pakistani journalist and analyst Hamid Mir has stirred public discourse by sharing a report alleging covert Israeli activities in Balochistan. In a post on his X account, Mir referenced an article from The Times of Israel, which he claims “exposed the hoax of Israel’s interference” in the province by, in fact, confirming it.
According to Mir’s summary of the report, Israel aims to “spread unrest in Balochistan” and subsequently use the region as a base to “spread chaos in Iran.” A key allegation is that “small drones are now being provided to Baloch separatists” to further these objectives. This claim, if verified, would mark a significant escalation in the complex regional proxy dynamics involving Pakistan, Iran, and their adversaries.
Mir used the platform to draw a sharp distinction between legitimate political struggle and violence. He stated that while it is “perfectly permissible to peacefully struggle for the rights of Balochistan within the constitution,” acts involving “killing women and children in the name of rights is terrorism.” He further argued against the feasibility of separatist goals, asserting it is “impossible to create an independent Balochistan by breaking Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan.”
The analyst concluded with a historical caution, urging stakeholders to “Learn a lesson from Bangladesh,” referencing the 1971 war. He noted that despite India’s assistance then, “today both are enemies,” implying that foreign alliances of convenience are fleeting and often lead to long-term animosity.
The post has reignited debates on foreign interference in Pakistan’s .
