Balochistan Govt Acts Against BLA Terrorists’ Kin

Balochistan Govt Acts Against BLA Terrorists' Kin

Quetta: The Government of Balochistan has confirmed the implementation of previously announced legal and administrative restrictions on families of individuals confirmed to be involved with the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and its factions, following the deadly coordinated attacks on January 31, 2026.

In an official public awareness notification (PRQ No. 131316 dated 17-09-2025, reiterated in recent communications), the provincial government emphasized that families of those who join terrorist organizations such as the BLA, Baloch Liberation Front (BLF), or affiliated groups—and who fail to report their involvement or formally disassociate—will face stringent consequences.

The restrictions include:

  • Blocking of passports
  • Freezing of bank accounts
  • Suspension of mobile SIM cards
  • Prohibition on the purchase or sale of property
  • Termination of contracts with government organizations
  • Cancellation of government employment, tenders, and official engagements

These measures stem from earlier categorical announcements by the provincial authorities, which placed the onus on families to inform the government about relatives’ involvement in proscribed groups.

Recent Developments: Following the January 31 attacks—claimed by the BLA under “Operation Herof Phase II”—which resulted in civilian and security personnel casualties, authorities have confirmed the identities of 140 BLA terrorists. The state is now proceeding with enforcement of the policy against non-compliant families.

Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, addressing the media on February 1, reiterated: “It is the responsibility of the families of those who have joined the ranks of terrorists to inform the government. Law will take its course against all the family members of these terrorists who did not alert the government.”

The government clarified that families who voluntarily reported relatives’ involvement and formally disassociated themselves from terrorist elements will not be subjected to these restrictions.

Rationale and Context: This action is described as being taken in the interest of national security, rule of law, and public safety, amid ongoing counter-terrorism operations that have reportedly neutralized over 145 militants in the past 40+ hours. The BLA remains designated as a terrorist organization by Pakistan, the United States, the United Kingdom, and others.

The notification urges public cooperation and awareness, with details available through official channels including the Directorate of Public Relations, Government of Balochistan (www.dpr.gov.pk; social media: @dpr_gob, @dprprbalochistan).

Authorities have stressed that these steps target facilitation of terrorism and aim to deter support for banned outfits, while protecting law-abiding citizens who comply with reporting obligations.

Further enforcement actions are expected as identification and verification processes continue.
