WASHINGTON: The United States President Donald Trump has said that the United States remains open to the possibility of dialogue with Iran, provided Tehran is willing to engage in talks.
President Trump stated that if Iran approaches the United States for discussions, Washington would consider what steps could be taken. He focused on the fact that any future engagement would be carefully evaluated in light of past experiences between the two countries.
President Trump recalled that earlier negotiations with Iran had failed, leading to military action against Iranian nuclear facilities. He noted that the Iranian issue has been addressed through various strategies in the past, including diplomatic, economic, and military measures.
“The situation has been handled in different ways before,” President Trump said. “Now we have to see what outcomes the current circumstances may bring.”
Furthermore, the US president also clarified that it is not always possible to inform Gulf countries in advance about American strategic or military planning. These statements were made against the backdrop of escalating developments in the region, including reports of military exercises in the Strait of Hormuz and deadly explosions in Iranian port cities.
Meanwhile, signals from Tehran suggest a cautious but notable shift in tone. Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani stated that progress is being made in talks with the United States.
Larijani acknowledged that the talks are taking place despite what he described as a hostile media environment and ongoing psychological pressure. He maintained, however, that genuine progress has been achieved and that dialogue remains possible.
