ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have agreed to expand cooperation in the energy and minerals sectors, Pakistan’s information ministry said on Friday.
The move reflects efforts by both countries to deepen economic ties and encourage joint investment.
The agreement follows meetings held during the Future Minerals Forum in Riyadh, where Pakistan’s Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik met Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Ibrahim Alkhorayef. Thirteen Pakistani public and private firms participated in the forum.
According to Pakistan’s petroleum ministry, Alkhorayef highlighted significant opportunities for bilateral cooperation in the minerals sector. Saudi Arabia was said to have offered support for Pakistan’s mining industry through technical expertise and knowledge sharing.
On Friday, Malik met Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki in Islamabad. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation.
Ongoing collaboration was reviewed and new areas of cooperation were discussed, particularly in energy and minerals, the information ministry said. Commitment to promoting investment and economic partnership was reaffirmed.
Saudi Arabia has increased its global role in the energy and minerals sectors in recent years. Investments have been accelerated in green technologies, sustainable mining, and international partnerships.
Pakistan hosted a minerals summit in April 2025. The event drew participation from major international companies and officials from several countries, including the United States, Saudi Arabia, China, Türkiye, the United Kingdom and Azerbaijan.
Malik expressed confidence that long-standing ties between the two countries would lead to practical outcomes, including investment, technology exchange and sustainable development initiatives.
