Five Khawarij Killed in Operation in Bannu

BANNU: Five Khawarij of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan were killed during an intelligence-based security operation in Pakistan’s northwest on Friday, officials said.

The operation was carried out in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. It was conducted jointly by the Counter Terrorism Department, local police, and other security units.

Action was taken in Domel tehsil, including the Akbar Ali Khan village and Sparka area. The locations were described as known militant hideouts.

A prolonged exchange of fire took place during the operation. Seven militants were reported wounded, according to officials.

The militants were said to be linked to a banned armed group. The operation was launched after credible intelligence about their presence.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Sajjad Khan said the objective was the dismantling of militant hideouts. Efforts were focused on preventing further attacks in the area.

No casualties were reported among security personnel. A search and clearance operation was continued after the firefight.

Surveillance and area control measures remain in place, authorities said.
Bannu and nearby districts have faced repeated militant violence in recent years. Intelligence-based operations have been regularly conducted against the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and affiliated groups.
