“No early release,” says KP governor on Adiala prisoner

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Friday unequivocally stated that the high-profile prisoner incarcerated in Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Friday unequivocally stated that the high-profile prisoner incarcerated in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail will only be released after completing the full legal sentence.

Addressing the media, Governor Kundi dismissed the provincial government’s focus on securing an early release, asserting, “The provincial government has only one agenda, that is how to free the prisoner.” He clarified that the prisoner’s hospital visit was solely for medical treatment, which he deemed a fundamental right for any patient.

Shifting to regional security, the Governor categorically denied reports of a new military operation in the restive Tirah Valley of Khyber district. He attributed the ongoing population movement to routine winter migration, acknowledging that “50 to 60 percent of the people migrated due to the fear of the operation.” He revealed the provincial government has allocated Rs. 4 billion and begun registering these internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Governor Kundi emphasized a steadfast stance against militancy, declaring, “from Chitral to Dera Ismail Khan, wherever there are terrorists, there will be an operation.”

In a pointed political remark, he advised the opposition PTI to split into two entities, including one dedicated as a “movement for discord.” When questioned about a potential 28th Constitutional Amendment after Eid, he stated any such proposal would be a matter for parliamentary debate
