RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) called off its sit-in outside Adiala Jail on Friday, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi attributing the decision to dwindling participation from party workers.
The protest, demanding party-related concessions, saw CM Afridi present alongside other PTI leaders as workers initially raised slogans. However, sources indicate that participation gradually declined over time, with workers beginning to leave the site. Observers noted that CM Afridi remained inside his vehicle for approximately an hour before the announcement to disperse was made.
The party leadership has now pivoted its strategy, deciding to pursue a legal avenue. A petition is scheduled to be filed in the Islamabad High Court on Saturday morning regarding the underlying issues that prompted the protest.
The police and district administration had implemented stringent security measures around the jail premises to maintain order. The situation remained entirely peaceful throughout the demonstration and its conclusion, with no reports of clashes or disruptions.
This move signals a tactical shift for the PTI, moving from street agitation to judicial recourse amid apparent challenges in mobilizing sustained public pressure for this particular cause. The legal petition’s details and the court’s subsequent response will be closely watched as the next phase of the party’s efforts.
