QUETTA: The Balochistan government has approved the closure of the provincial Religious Affairs Department.

The department’s remaining Zakat funds, totaling 400 crore PKR accumulated over the past four years, will be distributed to eligible individuals through the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).

The decision will eliminate 400 to 450 vacant positions in the department. Its properties, vehicles, offices, and furniture will be transferred to the Board of Revenue.

Officials said staff assigned to the secretariat will be moved to the Department of Administration. Employees at the district level will report to deputy commissioners, while those at the divisional level will report to commissioners.
