Dubai: Following the disqualification of the Bangladesh team from the ICC T20 World Cup, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has now imposed restrictions on Bangladeshi journalists’ coverage of the event.
Details indicate that the ICC rejected requests from Bangladeshi journalists to cover the entire tournament.
Instead, the global governing body has denied accreditation to all Bangladeshi media personnel for matches apart from the matches of Sri Lanka.
The ICC has clarified that, since Bangladesh is no longer participating, no journalists from the country will be granted media accreditation for the event.
This development comes just days after the ICC disqualified Bangladesh’s team, three days ago—due to security concerns raised by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), which refused to send the squad to India for their scheduled matches. After failed negotiations and independent security assessments finding no credible threat, the ICC replaced Bangladesh with Scotland in the tournament.
The decision has sparked significant controversy and disappointment in Bangladesh’s cricket and media circles, with reports of 130–150 accreditation applications being collectively turned down.
