LAHORE: Salman Qadir, the son of late Pakistani Test cricket legend Abdul Qadir, was arrested by police on Wednesday on charges of allegedly raping a housemaid at a farmhouse. The arrest follows the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) at the Barki police station based on the victim’s detailed complaint.
According to the FIR, accessed by ARY News, the incident occurred after Salman Qadir, who runs a cricket academy in Lahore, contacted the housemaid and instructed her to report for work immediately. When the woman arrived at the gate of a housing society, the accused allegedly forced her into a car and transported her to a farmhouse, where the assault took place.
Police officials confirmed that prompt action was taken after the FIR was lodged. “A case has been registered against Salman Qadir for raping the housemaid, and he has been arrested,” a police spokesperson stated. The accused is currently in custody as the investigation proceeds.
The case has sent shockwaves through the local community and cricket circles, given the high-profile status of the accused’s family. His late father, Abdul Qadir, was a revered leg-spinner and a former chief selector of the Pakistan Cricket Board, remembered as a national sporting icon.
Salman Qadir, beyond being the son of a cricket star, is known locally as the operator of a cricket coaching academy. The allegations have cast a shadow over his public standing and raised serious questions.
Authorities have assured a thorough and transparent investigation. The victim is being provided with legal and medical support, as per standard procedure. The police are also examining forensic evidence and gathering further details about the sequence of events described in the FIR. The case highlights ongoing concerns about the safety and rights of domestic workers and the accountability of individuals in positions of influence.
