DHAKA: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced that it will maintain its decision not to send the national team to India to participate in the T20 World Cup.
The BCB has confirmed that it will not reverse its stance on refusing to travel to India for the T20 World Cup matches.
According to sources, a meeting between Bangladesh’s Youth and Sports Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul and the players has concluded.
Following the meeting with the players, Sports Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul announced that the Bangladesh team will not travel to India for the World Cup.
He stated: “We want to play, and we still hope that the ICC will accept our position.”
Dr. Asif Nazrul added: “We are sticking to our stance. We face security threats in India. The ICC has not acknowledged our concerns, and the Indian government has made no serious effort to convince us.”
He emphasized that the decision to boycott the World Cup matches in India is that of the government.
“We requested to hold matches under a hybrid model. We want to participate in the World Cup, and the venues for our matches should be in Sri Lanka. The cricketers have been taken into confidence, and they agree with our position.”
Meanwhile, BCB President Aminul Islam said: “We will not give up on this matter until the end. It is our right, and we will approach the ICC again.”
The BCB President further stated: “We will not go to India. We want to play in Sri Lanka.”
Sources indicate that government and BCB officials will hold a press conference shortly.
