Chaman, Quetta blanketed; PDMA clears roads overnight

Weather Department forecasts rains and snowfall

CHAMAN: Balochistan is currently in the grip of severe winter weather, with heavy snowfall and widespread rains lashing various parts of the province. Key areas including Chaman, Quetta, and Ziarat have experienced continuous heavy snowfall, disrupting normal life and transportation.

The Meteorological Department’s earlier predictions of up to one foot of snow in Chaman and Quetta have materialized, leading to significant accumulations and blocked roads. The intense weather system has also brought substantial rainfall to other districts, raising concerns about flooding in low-lying areas.

In response to the crisis, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has launched a full-scale, round-the-clock rescue and relief operation. Acting on the special instructions of PDMA Director General Faisal Tariq Khan, teams are working without a break to assist stranded citizens and clear critical routes.

Highlighting the urgency of the efforts, PDMA heavy machinery was actively engaged in clearing snow at the crucial Kozhik Top as early as 3:00 AM, working to restore connectivity. The authority is focusing on ensuring the safety of residents in the hardest-hit regions, providing necessary aid, and keeping major highways open for emergency and public use.

The severe conditions have led to the closure of several key roads, isolating communities and posing challenges for the delivery of essential supplies. Authorities have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and to cooperate with rescue teams as operations continue to mitigate the impact of this intense winter spell across Balochistan.
