PkNAP condemns Balochistan govt’s new districts plan

Pashtunkhwa Party Condemns Govt's "Anti-Pashtun" Redistricting in Balochistan

QUETTA : The Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party (PkNAP) has launched a fierce critique of the Balochistan government, accusing Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti of making unilateral and politically motivated decisions in establishing new districts and divisions. In a strongly-worded press release issued from its provincial secretariat, the party expressed “serious reservations and deep concern,” alleging the moves systematically undermine Pashtun historical and administrative rights.

The statement condemned the ongoing territorial reorganization, arguing it ignores 150 years of historical, geographical, and administrative facts and is made without public consultation. The party specifically highlighted the “regrettable” abolition of Sibi’s historical status, its merger with Lahri, and the separation of Panjpai from Quetta. It also opposed the merger of Gaza Band and Ajram Union Councils with Gurdgab and Kanak to form a new district, terming these acts “anti-Pashtun policies.”

Furthermore, the PkNAP accused the CM of ignoring longstanding Pashtun demands—like upgrading Muslim Bagh, Sanjawi, and Toba Kakri to districts—while prioritizing the creation of a district in “Bekar,” an area of only five union councils. The party also voiced alarm over rumored plans to abolish Sherani district, calling it an attack on constitutional and political rights.

Labeling South Pashtunkhwa as perpetually neglected, the statement warned that these decisions are a deliberate attempt to sever Pashtun land from its cultural identity. The PkNAP appealed to all Pashtun people and political parties to unite, vehemently oppose the measures, and “fight together to protect their rights.”
