QUETTA: ASadiq Khan Achakzai, Central Chairman of the Mazloum Awami Tehreek Pakistan, issued a stark warning on Saturday, declaring the border town of Chaman at the mercy of dacoits and its populace driven to suicide by crippling unemployment and poverty. He accused the provincial government of being a “silent spectator” to the collapse of law and order.
Addressing party leaders and tribal elders at SK House, Achakzai painted a dire picture of a community pushed to the brink. “On one hand, people are committing suicide, while on the other hand, Chaman is at the mercy of dacoits where no one is safe anymore,” he stated. He directly linked the surge in crime and despair to the economic devastation caused by the prolonged closure of businesses.
Achakzai condemned the government’s inaction, asserting that the “Balochistan Assembly, including the government, has become a silent spectator to the situation in Chaman.” He argued that a government incapable of providing employment, securing livelihoods, or maintaining basic law and order has forfeited its moral right to rule.
The leader’s critique extended beyond the provincial authorities, as he issued a direct plea to the federal government. He demanded immediate intervention to “have mercy on the conditions in Chaman,” urging the restoration of closed businesses and the creation of employment opportunities to pull the region back from the edge.
Stopping short of an immediate call for protests, Achakzai delivered a firm ultimatum. “The oppressed Awami Tehreek-e-Pakistan should not be forced to take to the streets,” he warned, calling on the government to either demonstrate serious intent to resolve the crisis or “leave the government.”
