SARGODHA: A tragic road accident in Pakistan’s Punjab province killed at least 14 people, including women and children, and injured nine others on Saturday, rescue officials said.
The crash occurred on the outskirts of Sargodha amid dense fog. A mini-truck carrying mourners to a funeral lost control and plunged into the Ghullapur Bangla canal.
Rescue officials said the canal was dry at the time, but the impact of the fall proved fatal for many passengers.
Among the dead were six children, five women, and three men. A total of 23 people were traveling in the vehicle when the accident occurred.
Emergency teams rushed to the scene and launched rescue operations.
They shifted the bodies and injured to a nearby Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) hospital.
Doctors are providing treatment to the wounded, some of whom remain in critical condition, officials said. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
