WASHAK: In a devastating road accident in the remote Washak district of Balochistan, five individuals were tragically burnt to death following a horrific collision between two semi-trailers. The incident has cast a pall over the Rakhshan division, highlighting the perils of travel in the region.

The catastrophe occurred in the Rakhshan Badrang area of Washak. According to preliminary reports, the two heavy vehicles collided with such force that they immediately ignited into a fierce blaze. The occupants of both trucks were trapped and suffered catastrophic burns, leading to their instantaneous deaths at the scene.

Initial information suggests the victims were from different parts of the province, with reports indicating they belonged to both Noshki district and the Karachi area of Washak district. The identities of the deceased are being withheld pending formal identification and notification of their families.

Upon receiving news of the fiery crash, local Levies forces and rescue teams rushed to the remote location. Their teams worked to secure the area and recover the charred remains. The bodies have been shifted to a nearby hospital for medico-legal formalities. As the community reels from the shock, authorities have launched a full-scale investigation to determine the precise cause of the collision, which remains unclear. Factors such as driver fatigue, road conditions, or mechanical failure are likely to be examined.

Meanwhile the trend worsened in 2025, when 482,870 accidents were recorded, leading to 4,791 fatalities—a sharp 19 percent increase in deaths compared to the previous year along with nearly 570,000 injuries.

Motorcycles have been involved in about 75 percent of these cases, making riders particularly vulnerable, while pedestrians account for over 10 percent of victims.

Major urban centers like Lahore, Faisalabad, and Multan consistently report the highest numbers, with Lahore alone seeing over 88,000 incidents in 2025.

Factors such as speeding, poor enforcement, and increasing vehicle density contribute to the problem, prompting calls for stricter measures like speed limits and better emergency response.
