QUETTA: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Balochistan, Muhammad Tahir, has asserted that the provincial police force is undergoing a comprehensive modernization drive following the administrative merger of the Levies force. Emphasizing the critical need to confront contemporary security threats, the IGP stated that personnel are receiving advanced training to harness modern technology and enhance their professional capabilities.
The IGP expressed these views during a detailed visit to the Police Training College (PTC) Quetta, where he inspected training facilities and observed a live demonstration by the bomb disposal squad. He was briefed by senior officers, including DIG Special Branch Tahir Alauddin and Commandant PTC Quetta Shahzad Akbar, on the updated curriculum and new equipment being integrated into training programs for the amalgamated force.
“After the Levies were merged with the police, modern training is being provided to develop them on modern lines and expose them to modern technology,” stated IGP Tahir. He explained that this strategic shift aims to better equip officers to tackle the dual challenges of terrorism and serious crime, thereby ensuring the safety of life and property for the public. He praised the dedication of instructors working to foster innovation and improve the tactical skills of the personnel.
Watching the bomb disposal team expertly demonstrate controlled detonation, the IGP expressed his satisfaction with their proficiency. He linked this operational readiness to broader national stability, noting, “Balochistan is an important and sensitive province where the establishment of peace is indispensable for the stability of not only the province but also the entire country.”
IGP Tahir commended the Balochistan Police for its ongoing commitment, affirming that the force continues to fulfill its duties in the fight against criminals, terrorists, and anti-national elements with “full dedication, sacrifice, and professionalism.” The visit underscores the province’s focused effort to create a unified, technologically adept, and professionally robust police service in the face of evolving security dynamics.
