Pakistan Keeps Power Tariff Unchanged

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s federal government announced relief for electricity consumers on Monday and said it will not raise the average base power tariff.

The decision came after a briefing by the Power Division during a hearing at the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA). Officials said the government chose to keep tariffs unchanged to avoid placing an additional burden on consumers.

An additional secretary at the Power Division said the government adjusted subsidies to prevent any increase in electricity prices. He said these adjustments removed the need for a tariff hike.

Power Division officials said the country’s energy mix has improved significantly since July. They said lower production costs made it possible to provide relief to the public.

Officials stressed that the government reviewed all factors before making a final decision to maintain the existing tariff.
