LAHORE: Former Pakistan Test cricketer and ex-national chief selector Mohammad Ilyas passed away on Monday after a prolonged illness. He was 79.
Ilyas had been admitted to a local hospital a few days earlier for treatment. Doctors also performed surgery during his stay. He had been battling cancer for a long time.
During his playing career, Ilyas represented Pakistan in 10 Test matches. After retiring from international cricket, he continued to serve the game in administrative roles.
He later worked as Pakistan’s chief selector and was part of several Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committees. He also headed the women’s cricket selection committee.

The PCB expressed deep sorrow over his death in an official statement. The board acknowledged his services as both a player and a selector.
