Balochistan launches fund for women’s economic empowerment

Balochistan's women deserve equal opportunities: Dr. Rubaba

QUETTA: In a landmark move aimed at transforming the socio-economic landscape, the Balochistan government has established a Women Economic Empowerment Endowment Fund. Dr. Rubaba Khan Buledi, Advisor to the Chief Minister on Women Development, heralded the initiative as “not just a government project but a revolutionary and historic step” toward securing the dignity and financial independence of women in the province.

In an official statement, Dr. Buledi emphasized that economic self-reliance is the cornerstone of social protection for women. The fund is designed to provide skilled, educated, yet unemployed women, particularly from backward classes and remote rural areas, with equal opportunities to become self-sufficient. “The main focus of this policy is to bring women out of traditional economic dependence and bring them forward as successful entrepreneurs and business managers,” she stated.

The endowment fund will prioritize women from underserved rural communities who face severe resource constraints, with special provisions for the rehabilitation of widows, destitute, and disabled women. Support will include financial grants for starting small-scale businesses, promoting traditional handicrafts, and providing modern technical training.

Dr. Buledi assured that a strict code of conduct would ensure transparency and merit in the fund’s distribution. The initiative underscores the provincial government’s commitment, under the leadership of the Chief Minister, to dismantle socio-economic barriers and enable the women of Balochistan to become active contributors to the provincial economy.
