Local Govt Elections in Islamabad Suspended for Fourth Time

ISLAMABAD: Local government elections in the federal capital, Islamabad, have been suspended for the fourth time. The federal cabinet has approved the postponement of scheduled local government elections in Islamabad.

The decision came during a brief meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Cabinet members acted on a briefing from Islamabad’s Chief Commissioner regarding the elections.

The meeting also reviewed and approved new legislation to hold local elections in Islamabad under the Punjab model.

The Election Commission had initially set February 15 for the polls, with results expected between February 16 and 19.

The elections had already been delayed previously due to administrative and legal challenges.

With the latest decision, the government aims to strengthen the legal framework for local elections in the capital, ensuring future polls are conducted transparently and efficiently.
