QUETTA: A devastating accident claimed the life of a Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) employee on Thursday, highlighting grave occupational hazards for utility workers.

The victim, identified as lineman Muhammad Ayaz, was performing routine work on power lines in the city’s Barori area when he was suddenly electrocuted. Rescue officials confirmed that the shock was fatal, causing immediate death at the scene.

Following the incident, local police secured the site, took custody of the body, and shifted it to a nearby hospital for medico-legal formalities. After completing the necessary legal and medical proceedings, the authorities handed over Ayaz’s remains to his grieving family members.

The tragic incident has cast a pall over the community and raised urgent questions about on-ground safety protocols and enforcement for personnel working with high-voltage electricity. Such fatal accidents, while not uncommon, underscore the extreme risks faced by linemen who maintain the country’s power infrastructure, often in challenging conditions.

As of now, QESCO officials have not released an official statement regarding the specific cause of the accident or whether an internal inquiry has been initiated. The death of Muhammad Ayaz serves as a somber reminder of the human cost behind essential public service and is likely to prompt calls for a thorough review of safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Meanhwile the Balochistan Healthcare Commission (BHCC) intensified its campaign against quackery on Tuesday, with its enforcement team conducting targeted inspections and taking punitive action against several unregistered and unauthenticated medical facilities in the provincial capital.

Acting on Jan Muhammad Road and Faqir Muhammad Road, the commission’s team identified multiple violations. According to the commission’s Focal Person, Dr. Bismillah Kakar, the operation resulted in fines being imposed on three unregistered general clinics and one unregistered dental clinic. Furthermore, two other clinics were issued strict verbal warnings and directed to comply with BHCC regulations immediately.
