Quetta Safe City Project Now Fully Operational: IGP Balochistan

QUETTA: Balochistan Inspector General of Police Muhammad Tahir said on Wednesday that wide-ranging reforms were underway to strengthen the provincial police force.

Speaking at a press conference in Quetta, Tahir said the police addressed staffing gaps through targeted improvements and fresh recruitment. He said the force delivered security resources to red stations to improve response time.

He said route adjustments and smart redeployment of forces had significantly improved operational performance.

The police chief said qualified and professional officers were being posted at key locations to deliver better results. He said operational exercises were being turned into a regular practice.

Tahir said the welfare of police personnel remained a top priority. He warned of strict action against mismanagement or misconduct. He said officers and personnel who showed good performance would receive rewards.

He said the department was focusing on training and capacity building to achieve a multiplier effect through efficient use of available resources.

The inspector general said special attention was being given to professionalism, body language and public behavior. He praised the bravery of station house officers and personnel during terrorist attacks on Bolan and Bhag police stations.

He said police defended the stations to the last point and neither abandoned their posts nor surrendered weapons. He said police in Quetta, Panjgur, Mashkai and other districts also responded bravely to attacks, reflecting the force’s sacrifices.

Muhammad Tahir said recruitment was being conducted strictly on merit. He said no notification-based or personal influence system existed.

He said transparent recruitment was underway in the Balochistan Constabulary and the Special Branch. He said the department was using technology for postings and transfers to curb interference.

The police chief said a strong SOP structure was being established. He said 12 key security-related SOPs had already been enforced.

He said detailed SOPs covered threat alerts, security schedules, sensitive installations and VVIP protection.

Tahir said work on a new training framework had been completed. He said an additional inspector general for operations had been appointed.

He said the Price Branch would expand beyond Quetta. He said the provincial government had approved an increase in 88 allowances and raised police strength by nearly 1,500 personnel.

The inspector general said PC-1 projects had been uploaded. He said the ATD headquarters would be completed by March 2025.

He said work on data centers was progressing at a fast pace. He said most projects were expected to be completed by 2026.

He said the Balochistan Police had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Punjab Information Technology Board. He said the process to establish an IT cadre was also underway.

He also paid tribute to international law enforcement agencies for their cooperation.
