LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced that 10 bidders have been approved following the completion of the technical evaluation process for the sale of two new franchises of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
In this regard, the auction for the two new teams will take place on January 8, 2026, at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad.
The process follows the submission of 12 proposals by interested parties, reflecting strong local and international interest in the country’s premier T20 league.
The PCB said that proposals were received from investors based in Pakistan as well as from the United States, Australia, Canada and the United Arab Emirates. These submissions were reviewed by the PCB Bid Committee over a three-day period.
“A total of 12 proposals were received from interested parties within the stipulated deadline from across the globe and were scrutinised by the PCB Bid Committee over the last three days,” the statement said. “
Furthermore, the PCB confirmed that the 10 technically qualified bidders will be eligible to participate in the auction, where franchise rights for the two new HBL PSL teams will be offered.
In this sense, the addition of two new teams will expand the PSL from six to eight franchises, a move that the PCB believes will further strengthen the league’s competitiveness and commercial value while broadening its national footprint.
Moreover, the PSL Chief Executive Officer Salman Naseer welcomed the response from investors, describing it as an encouraging sign for the league’s future. He said the interest demonstrated by both domestic and international parties reflects growing confidence in the PSL as a global sporting product.
“The league appreciates the strong interest shown by both local and international investors,” Naseer was quoted as saying. “We look forward to achieving another significant milestone in the expansion and evolution of the PSL as we now prepare for the eagerly awaited auction.”
The PCB has maintained that the bidding process will be conducted in a transparent and professional manner.
