DUSHANBE: Tajikistan has warned Kabul over the recent armed clash along the Tajikistan–Afghanistan border.
Tajik state news agency Khovar cited a statement from the State Committee for National Security’s Border Troops. It said three men crossed the border late Tuesday night in the Shamsiddin Shohin district of the southwestern Khatlon region.
Security forces located the men on Wednesday, the statement said.
The authorities said the men refused to surrender and opened armed resistance when confronted by Tajik border guards. Officials said the group planned to attack a border post of the national security committee.
Tajik forces killed all three men during the operation, the statement said. Two Tajik border guards also died in the clash.
Tajik officials said the incident marked the third armed attack, terrorist act or illegal border intrusion from Afghanistan in the past month.
The statement accused the Afghan authorities of repeatedly failing to meet their international obligations to ensure security and stability along the Tajik-Afghan border.
Tajik officials said they expect the Afghan administration to issue an apology and take more effective steps to strengthen border security.
There was no immediate response from the Afghan side.
Earlier this month, Tajikistan said two cross-border attacks from Afghanistan killed five people and wounded five others.
