QUETTA: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Balochistan has intensified its drive for financial transparency, issuing recovery notices worth Rs 22 billion to various provincial departments over the past year and successfully retrieving Rs 8 billion so far.
PAC Chairman Asghar Tareen, in an interview with a private TV channel, stated that the actions mark a critical step toward stabilizing the province’s financial health and ensuring public accountability. He emphasized that the recovered amount has been deposited into the national treasury, reinforcing governance and fiscal discipline.
In a significant move, the committee also identified and closed 34 unauthorized bank accounts operated by deputy commissioners across Balochistan, transferring all funds to the provincial exchequer.
Tareen announced that the PAC is now expanding its oversight to include public grievances through suo motu notices. As an immediate example, he revealed that officials responsible for the demolition of Quetta’s New Sabzal Road under the “Quetta Package” have been summoned for explanation and necessary action.
“The core mission of PAC Balochistan is to eradicate financial corruption, ensure departmental transparency, and deliver relief to citizens,” Tareen stated. He affirmed that the committee will rigorously monitor not only financial matters but also the protection of public facilities, development projects, and government assets to ensure uninterrupted progress and justice for the people of Balochistan.
The chairman’s remarks underscore a growing effort to strengthen institutional accountability and address public concerns proactively in the province.
