ISLAMABAD: Thousands of jubilant cricket fans created a sea of green at Islamabad International Airport on Sunday, welcoming home the nation’s new Under-19 champions after a historic victory over arch-rivals India. The scenes erupted as the young team, having clinched the U-19 Asia Cup 2025 title, returned to a nation celebrating their dominant performance.
Pakistan secured its second U-19 Asia Cup title—and first since 2012—with a crushing 191-run victory in the final in Dubai, the second-largest win by runs in the tournament’s final history. After being put into bat, Pakistan posted a mammoth 347 for 8, powered by a breathtaking innings from opener Sameer Minhas. His stunning 172 off just 113 balls, including a 71-ball century, set a new record for the highest individual score in a U-19 Asia Cup final.
In response, the Indian batting lineup, which had been unbeaten throughout the tournament, crumbled under pressure. Losing five wickets inside the first ten overs, they were bundled out for a mere 156 runs, failing to secure a record-extending ninth crown.
The celebratory homecoming was attended by senior officials, including federal ministers, highlighting the victory’s significance. Adding to the glory, Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi—who also serves as the Asian Cricket Council President—announced a cash reward of 5 million Pakistani rupees for each team member, praising their exceptional talent and fighting spirit.
As the players emerged at the airport, fans danced to the national anthem, celebrating not just a trophy, but a new generation of cricketing heroes who delivered a performance for the ages.
