Note on Pakistan-Iran Ties on Regional Security and Cooperation to Counter Cross-Border Militancy:

Pakistan and Iran share a long border and have historically cooperated on regional security matters, particularly in addressing cross-border militancy and terrorism.

Both countries have repeatedly expressed the need for joint efforts to combat threats from militant groups operating along their shared border, including the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other extremist elements.

Recent years have seen increased high-level dialogue, border security coordination, and intelligence sharing to curb cross-border attacks and smuggling.

While occasional tensions arise due to militant incursions and retaliatory actions, both nations remain committed to dialogue and joint mechanism, such as the Pakistan-Iran Joint Border Management Committee to enhance security cooperation and prevent the spillover of militancy into each other’s territory.

This cooperation is viewed as essential for stability in the region.

It is worth mentioning that both Pakistan and Iran are currently confronting the challege of foreign-backed militancy on the either sides of the border areas, particularly in the Eastern and the Western Balochistan areas.

They also have to cope with the challenge of border infiltraions by the Afghan nationals.

The human-traffickers too are a massive security risk the causes a chaos for both the contries.

However, the mutual cooperation leades to important success on grounds of anti-terrorism and border security for both the countreis.
