JUI-F demands timely LG polls in Quetta, slams govt performance

JUI-F Senator Maulana Abdul Wasey Balochistan

LORALAI: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Balochistan leader Senator Maulana Abdul Wasey has demanded that the upcoming local body elections in Quetta proceed as scheduled on December 28, criticizing attempts by some parties to seek a postponement through the courts as “tantamount to running away from the election.”

Speaking to media in Loralai, the provincial ameer launched a broadside against the federal and provincial governments, expressing dissatisfaction with their overall performance. He highlighted “a lack of good governance,” rampant unemployment, and a severe water crisis forcing people to migrate.

Shifting focus to constitutional matters, Wasey stated that while his party supported the 26th amendment, it rejected the 27th amendment, which grants immunity to the president and army chief. “A field marshal and president are in no way above the constitution and law,” he asserted, calling the provision contrary to Islam and the basic principles of the 1973 Constitution.

He criticized the haste in amending the constitution, lamenting that it has been “trampled underfoot” by every military dictator and their accomplice governments. Wasey declared that true democracy cannot be strengthened until interference from “powerful circles” ends, announcing JUI-F’s readiness to start a movement for the supremacy of the constitution, law, and parliament, and is open to talks with all political parties.

In a sharp political attack, he termed the current parliament and government a product of “Form 47,” possessing a “fake mandate” that JUI-F does not accept. He warned that with this government, the country would remain mired in instability, chaos, and economic crises.

Advocating for a political solution, Wasey stated that JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has the capability to steer the country out of crisis. He called for immediate general elections under a neutral election commission, arguing that action against Imran Khan alone was unjust when “the country is full of thieves.” He concluded by warning that the rulers would eventually be held accountable by both the law and the people
