Barkhan: Earthquake tremors were felt in Barkhan and its surrounding areas on December 17, 2025, at around 4:30 pm, causing panic among residents.
The tremors lasted for several seconds, prompting people to rush out of their homes in fear.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Islamabad, the earthquake measured 4.2 on the Richter scale and occurred at a depth of 25 kilometers.
The epicenter was located approximately 27 kilometers northeast of Barkhan, with geographical coordinates recorded at 30.18 degrees north latitude and 69.54 degrees east longitude.
No reports of casualties or property damage have been received so far, while authorities stated that the situation is being closely monitored.
It is worth mentioning that the tremors are felt more than often in the remote and the far areas across Balochistan raising fear among the masses.
Balochistan is one of the most earthquake-prone regions of Pakistan due to its location along active tectonic plate boundaries.
The province lies near the collision zone of the Arabian, Eurasian, and Indian plates, which makes it highly vulnerable to frequent seismic activity.
As a result, both minor tremors and moderate to strong earthquakes are commonly recorded across different districts of Balochistan.
Over the years, Balochistan has experienced several damaging earthquakes that have caused loss of life, destruction of infrastructure, and displacement of communities, particularly in remote and mountainous areas.
Weak construction practices, mud houses, and limited emergency response facilities further increase the impact of earthquakes in the region.
Experts stress the need for improved building standards, public awareness, and disaster preparedness to reduce future risks and protect lives.
