ISLAMABAD: The dense fog has covered several districts of Punjab, reducing visibility to nearly zero and causing serious difficulties for motorists. The weather condition has significantly disrupted road traffic, increasing the risk of accidents and forcing authorities to take precautionary measures, including the closure of major motorway sections.
In this regard, the thick fog has affected both urban and intercity routes, making it extremely challenging for motorcycles, cars, and heavy vehicles to move safely. Furthermore, the Motorway Police confirmed that multiple sections of the national motorway network have been closed for all types of traffic in order to prevent accidents.
The closures include the M-2 motorway from Thokar Niaz Baig to Hiran Minar, the M-3 from Faizpur Interchange to Jaranwala, and the M-4 from Shershah to Pindi Bhattian. In addition, the M-4 section from Gojra to Multan and the M-5 motorway from Multan to Zahir Pir have also been shut down until conditions improve.
Moreover, the Meteorological experts have warned that the fog may intensify further due to increased moisture levels in the air. The prevailing weather pattern suggests that foggy conditions could persist over the coming days, particularly during nighttime and early morning hours, further complicating travel across the province.
Meanwhile, the Motorway Police have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel until visibility improves. Travelers who must be on the road have been strongly advised to use fog lights, maintain safe distances between vehicles, and reduce speed to minimize the risk of accidents.
In such a scenario, the emergency services remain on high alert, while traffic police personnel have been deployed at key points to assist commuters.
