ASHGABAT: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif warned that a “new wave of terrorism” is emerging from Afghan soil and urged the international community to press the Afghan authorities to meet their commitments.

Speaking at a forum marking the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality in Ashgabat, the Prime Minister said it was a pleasure to be in Ashgabat. He praised the city’s white marble architecture and the hospitality of the Turkmen people.

He said Turkmenistan’s tradition of generous hospitality is remarkable. He welcomed the decision to declare 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust. He added that Pakistan has taken up its responsibilities at the UN Security Council this year.

Sharif said terrorism is resurging from Afghanistan and called on global partners to ensure the Afghan government upholds its obligations.

He reaffirmed that peaceful resolution of disputes is a core pillar of Pakistan’s foreign policy. He noted that Pakistan supported the Gaza Peace Plan, which helped secure a temporary pause in fighting and brought relief to hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.
