QUETTA: In a significant escalation of the ongoing protest against the recently implemented Ordinance 2025, the Quetta Balochistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QBCCI) has formally announced its full support for the strike by transporters, warning of severe repercussions for the provincial economy. The announcement came during a meeting with a high-level delegation of the Balochistan Goods Truck Owners Association Registered.

The Chamber, aligning itself with the key players in the province’s logistics sector, accused the government of imposing the ordinance without consultation, thereby creating “severe reservations” among transporters. QBCCI officials stated that the government must immediately address these grievances to resolve the deadlock.

“The government implemented the Ordinance 2025 without taking transporters into confidence,” a Chamber statement declared, emphasizing its solidarity. “The Chamber announced support for the strike and assured the transporters that the Chamber stands with them.”

The delegation from the transport association was led by its Central President Haji Noor Muhammad Shahwani and included senior figures like Secretary Jafar Khan Kakar and Vice President Haji Zahir Shah Yousafzai. Their discussions with QBCCI officials centered on the shared economic threat posed by the strike.

Issuing a stark warning, the Chamber highlighted the immediate danger to the supply chain. Officials cautioned that the prolonged strike is “likely to severely affect the movement of essential goods” and urged the government to take immediate action to prevent business activities from grinding to a halt. They reaffirmed the Chamber’s role as an advocate, pledging to “always raise its voice for the solution of the problems of transporters and the business community.”

This unified front between commerce and transport bodies piles pressure on the provincial government, framing the strike not just as a sector-specific protest but as a burgeoning crisis with widespread economic consequences for Balochistan.

Meanwhile the Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, announced Thursday that the new Trauma Centre in Quetta will significantly enhance the province’s emergency healthcare capacity, enabling immediate and effective treatment of critical cases and saving countless lives.

During a review visit of the under-construction facility on Spini Road, Quetta, CM Bugti emphasized the importance of modern medical infrastructure for quality emergency care. He was briefed by Provincial Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar, Health Secretary Mujib-ur-Rehman Panezai, and Communications Secretary Lal Jan Jaffer on the project’s progress.
