Lashari tribe convenes major Jirga to Aladdress security and water crisis

GAJAN: In a significant show of tribal unity, Chief Sardar Jalal Khan Lashari convened a major council (jirga) here on Sunday, mobilizing a collective response to the recent abductions at Sikleji and the deliberate disruption of the vital Shoran Water Canal.

The assembly brought together influential landowners and elders from the Lashari, Zahri, and Rind tribes. Participants expressed grave concern over the twin crises, highlighting the severe threat posed to agricultural sustainability and local livelihoods by the canal’s shutdown, alongside the climate of fear created by the kidnappings.

Unanimously, the council agreed to coordinate all necessary efforts to immediately restore the Shoran Canal and ensure a steady water supply to the affected farmlands. This move is seen as critical to preventing economic hardship and social unrest in the region.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Sardar Jalal Khan Lashari emphasized his tribe’s historical commitment to peace and coexistence. However, he issued a firm warning, stating the Lashari tribe and its allies are fully prepared to defend themselves and local communities if security threats persist. “We have always been a people of peace, but we will not hesitate to protect our people and their rights,” he asserted.

Proactively, the council advised villages across the involved tribal territories to organize and strengthen local self-protection measures. This step aims to enhance immediate security on the ground while broader resolutions are sought with relevant authorities.

This decisive tribal mobilization underscores a community-driven resolve to maintain order, prevent further escalation, and safeguard both life and essential infrastructure in the face of emerging challenges.
