Imran Khan Narrative Becomes National Security Threat: DG ISPR

Live: DG ISPR Addresses Key Press Conference

ISLAMABAD: Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has strongly criticised PTI founding chairman Imran Khan for attacking state institutes and armed forces, calling him “mentally unstable”.

Addressing an Important press Conference, withing naming Imran Khan, he said that his narrative has become a national threat. He believes that if he does not exist, then nothing else should exist either, he said.

We respect all political parties and their leaders, but the military should not be dragged into politics. Politics in this matter is over. His narrative has now become a national risk.”

DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, in a strongly worded press conference, warned that the army would respond firmly to any attacks on its integrity. He said the uniform “will not tolerate baseless allegations” and will give a “bare-knuckled” response if necessary.

Referring to imprisoned former prime minister Imran Khan, he said some individuals have placed personal ambition above national interest. He warned that a narrative pushed by certain elements has become a threat to national security.

He said one individual in particular has emerged as a “security risk” and believes that “if not me, then no one,” adding that such rhetoric harms the country.

Lt Gen Sharif stressed that the military does not pursue any political agenda and works only for Pakistan’s security. He said the armed forces do not represent any ethnic or political group and take pride in their uniform.

He urged political actors to keep politics away from the military. He said the army respects all political parties but does not carry the flag of any one of them.

The DG ISPR also announced that the newly established Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) headquarters has begun formal operations. He congratulated stakeholders on the appointment of Pakistan’s first CDF.

He said the new headquarters will strengthen command and oversight of warfare-related matters and help Pakistan focus on the national security challenges ahead.

warned that no one will be allowed to create a rift between the people and the Pakistan Armed Forces.

He said those targeting the military leadership are not well-wishers of the nation. While the constitution permits freedom of expression, it does not allow speech that threatens national security.

Lt Gen Sharif criticised an individual who allegedly urged citizens to stop remittances and avoid paying electricity bills. He called these actions attempts to undermine the country.

Highlighting the army’s resilience, he said Pakistan’s forces have stood firm even against adversaries eight times their size. He added that some people try to prevent the military from acting as a shield against external threats and terrorism, spreading dangerous narratives in the process.

He questioned whether those attacking the armed forces are paving the way for foreign or terrorist aggression. “Every country has a single military institution. The constitution and laws must be respected when discussing national security,” he said.

Lt Gen Sharif also announced that the new Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) headquarters has formally begun operations. He congratulated all stakeholders on the appointment of the CDF and said the headquarters will provide comprehensive oversight of all matters related to warfare.

He added that the country must now focus on addressing national security challenges. The DG ISPR said the new CDF headquarters marks a significant step in strengthening Pakistan’s defence structure.
