Brisbane: Australia’s left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc created history by breaking the 23-year-old world record previously held by Pakistan’s legendary pacer Wasim Akram.
During the first innings of the pink-ball Ashes Test against England at the Gabba on Thursday, Starc claimed the crucial wickets of Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, and Harry Brook.
With these dismissals, he became the highest wicket-taking left-arm fast bowler in Test cricket.
Starc achieved this milestone by taking his 415th wicket in his 102nd Test match, surpassing Akram’s record of 414 wickets in 104 Tests.
It is also worth noting that the overall record for most wickets by a fast bowler in Test cricket is held by England’s James Anderson, who has taken 704 wickets in 188 matches.
Hailing the Australian great, Wasim Akram said
Super Starc! Proud of you, mate. Your incredible hard work sets you apart, and it was only a matter of time before you crossed my tally of wickets .
I am pleased to give this to you! Go well, and keep soaring to new heights in your stellar career . @mstarc56

However, the 35 years old speedster did not go wild with his success and lauded the Pakistan’s past great by calling ‘a far better bowler’.
In his remarks on this occasion, Mitchell Starc called Wasim ‘Pinnacle best’.
Mitchell Starc has been Australia’s consistent part for about past 22 years.
The tall left-arm fast bowler has been consistent with his pace and natural movement away from the left handed and into the right handed batters.
He’s trapped many right handers leg before and has even bowled them with the deliveries curving into the stumps.
The left-handed batters have troubles while playing the deliveries moving away from them on the off-stump line.
