QUETTA: Balochistan’s Fisheries Department has foiled an attempt at illegal trawling in its coastal waters.
Officials said the operation took place near Ormara, within 12 nautical miles of the coast. Fisheries teams successfully stopped the illegal activity.
Sources said there was a brief exchange of fire between the trawling mafia and the patrolling team. The timely action by the Fisheries Department forced the illegal operators to retreat.
The department has announced tougher measures against illegal trawling and said operations to protect marine resources will continue.
