ISLAMABAD: The district administration on Monday imposed Section 144 in Islamabad Capital Territory, banning all public gatherings, rallies, and protests across the federal capital.
Authorities said no assembly, demonstration, or protest is allowed while the order remains in effect. The move came ahead of a planned political rally by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The district administration warned that any violation would be met with immediate action. “If any illegal activity is carried out, action will be taken without delay,” the statement said.
Citizens were urged to avoid unlawful gatherings and cooperate with authorities to maintain peace and security. The administration did not specify how long the restrictions will remain in place.
Earlier last month, the Peshawar High Court issued a landmark ruling against the misuse of government machinery by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government. The court barred the use of government vehicles, equipment, or staff for political rallies, marches, or protests.
The PHC described such misuse as corruption and abuse of authority. It ordered full impartiality in political activities and prohibited government officials and employees from participating in political events.
The court emphasized that using state resources for political purposes violates fundamental rights and is strictly unacceptable. Authorities were directed to ensure government property is used lawfully and properly.
