QUETTA: The Balochistan government has made it mandatory for all restaurants and hotels in Quetta to register with the tax authority and install Point of Sale (PoS) machines. Businesses failing to comply will face closure.
According to officials from the Balochistan Revenue Authority (BRA), a comprehensive campaign has been officially launched to promote transparency and expand the tax net. The initiative mandates every restaurant and hotel in the provincial capital to integrate into the formal economy through tax registration and the immediate installation of PoS systems. The primary objective is to document business transactions, thereby increasing provincial revenues and strengthening financial resources for public welfare projects.
BRA officials emphasized that this measure is crucial for creating a fair and transparent business environment. Special teams from the authority will now conduct city-wide inspections to ensure all relevant businesses complete their registration, document verification, and PoS installation without delay. The directive is unequivocal; non-compliance will not be tolerated.
The BRA has issued a stern warning to business entities that delay registration, avoid installing the PoS systems, or refuse to cooperate with the authorities. Such establishments will not be permitted to continue their operations in the city. Officials stated that no concessions or exemptions will be granted, underscoring the government’s resolve to implement the policy in its entirety.
This crackdown is expected to not only improve the business environment by ensuring a level playing field but also to spur significant progress in the overall economic development of Balochistan by harnessing untapped revenue streams.
Meanwhile the Balochistan Chief Secretary CS Shakeel Qadir Khan has directed all provincial departments to immediately activate their social media accounts to ensure the public receives timely updates on development projects.
The directive was issued during a high-level Secretaries Committee meeting chaired by the CS in Quetta. The meeting focused on key administrative issues, including ensuring staff attendance, transparent appointments to vacant posts, and the effective monitoring of development projects.
