Fact Check: Afghan Taliban Spokesperson’s Images Claiming Pakistan Airstrikes Old, Misleading

ISLAMABAD: The Afghan Taliban claimed of the Pakistan airstrikes in Afghanistan’s Khost province late Tuesday night.

Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid posted on social media platform X that Pakistani forces bombed a house in the Gorbuz district, Mughalgai area, belonging to civilian Waliat Khan, son of Qazi Mir.

He claimed nine children (five boys and four girls)and one woman were killed. He also alleged airstrikes in Kunar and Paktika, injuring four civilians.

However, independent checks using AI and image verification tools showed that the pictures shared by Mujahid were old and had been reused.

Experts said the images do not match the locations or dates claimed by the Taliban.

Security analysts said this was part of a recurring pattern of misleading claims by the Afghan Taliban.
