PESHAWAR: Security forces and law enforcement agencies have recovered weapons used by U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan during operations carried out across various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to security sources, these operations were conducted in multiple areas of the province, during which advanced weapons previously used in Afghanistan by American and NATO forces were seized from terrorists and later displayed to the media.
The recovered arms were confiscated during several recent operations and include M4 and M16 rifles, other modern automatic weapons, night-vision goggles, and various advanced devices.
The cache also contains high-grade explosives and detonating wires similar to those used by U.S. and NATO militaries.
According to officials, militants from the “Khawarij” group were capable of targeting Pakistani forces from long distances at night using these American weapons.
The seized arms also include steel-headed bullets capable of piercing bulletproof vests.
Security sources stated that these weapons were left behind during the withdrawal of U.S. and NATO troops from Afghanistan, and terrorists have since been using them against Pakistani law enforcement personnel. The American weapons clearly bear markings showing they are property of the U.S. government.
It is worth mentioning that Pakistan had already said that the weapons left by the U.S Army in Afghanistan is not in an unsafe custody and it can be utilized for militant-aims.
It is also worth-mentioning that a large number of militant attacks have been carried out in KP and Blaochistan by the Afghan militant groups like TTP and others.
The Afghan militants’ involvement in militancy in Pakistan is now globally acknowledged.
There is a strain going on between the two countries at the moment for the same reason. Pakistan demands Afghanistan not to let the militants operate from their territory.
If it happens again, Pakistan may carry out military operation deep inside Afghanistan.
