Asalanaka likely to be removed from captaincy

COLOMBO: The Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka is likely to be dismissed from his role of captaincy.

According to the Sri Lankan media, the Sri Lankan Captain Charith Asalanka is likely to be terminated from his captaincy role.

The report says the Sri Lankan captain has withdrawn from the Pakistan’s tour and has left for his country.

The report also said that Asalanka also tempted the teammates to withdraw from the tour.

The concerns regarding the security were well and truly resolved after the assurance of Pakistan’s interior minister and the Chairman PCB, Mohsin Naqvi.

The Sri Lankan team changed their mind and agreed to continue the tour in order to play the ODIs and the Tri-Nations Series T20.

However, Asalanka stunned everyone while making his decision to quite the tour and return to his country.

The sources have also claimed that Charith Asalanka may also have to appear before an inquiry panel of the Sri Lankan Cricket Board in order to justify his decision of quitting the tour incomplete.

If Asalanka fails to come up with a satisfactory answer, more strict action may be carried out against him.

It is worth mentioning that the Sri Lankan team was whitewashed in the ODI’s series in Asalanka’s captaincy.

Asalanka also failed to make an impact with the bat in all the three ODIs so it was not an ideal time for him to make such a move when the cricket fans back in Sri Lanka and the Cricket Board were already outrageous on team’s performance.

Pakistan had won the first ODI by 6 runs. The host grabbed a decisive victory in the second ODI by a comprehensive 8 wickets win.

In the third ODI, Pakistan held their nerves better and chased down Sri Lanka’s target of 212 with six wickets in hand.
