Hospitalised PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui to Miss 27th Amendment vote

ISLAMABAD: The health of the ruling party Pakistan Muslim League  (PML-N) Senator Irfan Siddiqui has worsened, and he will not take part in Senate vote on the 27th Constitutional Amendment.

Media reports said doctors placed Siddiqui on a ventilator after his condition became critical. He remains on oxygen support and under medical supervision.

Officials confirmed that Siddiqui will miss the Senate session where the government plans to table the 27th Amendment later today.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed Siddiqui’s illness and said the government still has the numbers to pass the bill. “Senator Siddiqui is very sick and will not vote, but our majority is intact,” Dar said.

Government sources said the ruling coalition controls 61 seats in the 100-member Senate and has secured support from at least 64 members — the two-thirds majority needed for passage.

The 27th Constitutional Amendment is scheduled for introduction in the Senate later Monday.

Earlier last night, a high-level federal delegation, including Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah and other federal ministers, arrived in Turbat. The delegation, representing Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, held a meeting with National Party (NP) chief Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch, and requested for support in favour of the 27th Constitutional Amendment in the Parliament.
