QUETTA: In a major nationwide crackdown, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has identified and begun automatically blocking more than 250,000 fake Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) held predominantly by Afghan nationals, according to official sources.
The operation, which significantly tightens the ongoing drive against illegal residency, utilized special software to detect fraudulent documents. The software analyzed family tree compositions within the national database, flagging inconsistencies that revealed a widespread practice of Afghans being illegally added to the family records of Pakistani citizens.
Sources indicate that the cities of Pishin, Chaman, and Quetta were key hotspots for this activity, where agents allegedly took “huge sums of money” to fraudulently include foreign nationals in Pakistani citizen family trees.
NADRA officials have confirmed that the CNICs of those identified as holding fake documents are now being blocked automatically. Cardholders have been instructed to present themselves at NADRA offices for verification. Any identity cards not verified within a specified deadline will be permanently cancelled, officials stated.
This move represents a significant escalation in efforts to document and regulate foreign nationals in Pakistan, directly targeting the sophisticated networks that have enabled the procurement of fraudulent Pakistani identity documents.
The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has blocked one lac CNICs in Balochistan.
According to the details. NADRA has blocked the registration of 100,000 National ID cards (CNICs) in Quetta and other cities across Balochistan.
40,000 blocked ID cards belong to Quetta only. According to the officials of the Balochistan government, the passports of the Afghan nationals are also being blocked.
The Chairman NADRA has submitted a bill in the Supreme Court of Pakistan that if any family claims the Afghan immigrants as their family member. e.g son, brother or any other relation, will be charged with a fine of 30 lac rupees along with a five years prison.
