SIBI: In a dual-pronged initiative to enhance public health and sanitation, the district administration has launched significant operations targeting both food safety and disease control.
In the first development, the district administration has moved forward with plans to establish a modern slaughterhouse. An important meeting on the project was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Hafiz Muhammad Tariq, with officials from municipal and livestock departments in attendance. The meeting reviewed proposed sites, required facilities, and implementation steps. ADC Tariq directed all departments to coordinate their efforts to expedite the project, which the administration has vowed to complete soon in the public interest. The facility is expected to improve hygiene standards for meat production and distribution.
In a separate but related public health drive, the Municipal Committee of Sibi has launched a large-scale campaign to eliminate stray dogs from the city. Acting on the directives of Chairman Sardar Muhammad Khan Khujak, municipal teams carried out operations in various neighbourhoods and markets, removing dozens of stray animals. The action aims to protect citizens from the threat of attacks and the transmission of diseases, particularly rabies.
Chairman Khujak confirmed that this campaign will continue in phases until the entire city is covered. He also announced that mosquito control spray operations would begin shortly as part of a broader effort to improve sanitation and prevent vector-borne disease.
Additionally the Balochistan Food Authority has successfully wrapped up its special campaign aimed at eliminating the sale of bad meat in the province.
On the final day of inspections, BFA teams carried out a detailed examination of 24 meat shops in Satellite Town and A-One City.
During the inspection, teams thoroughly checked cleanliness, storage facilities, and overall meat quality.
Due to poor hygiene conditions, unsafe display practices, and hanging meat outside shop premises, action was taken against 17 beef, mutton, and poultry outlets.
A total of 11 beef and mutton shop owners, along with 2 poultry shop owners, were fined for violations of hygiene and food safety regulations, while 5 shops were issued improvement notices and given time to rectify minor shortcomings.
Additionally, challans were imposed on 4 butchers found selling meat without a proper food business license.
The primary objective of the campaign was to ensure compliance with SOPs regarding meat quality and sanitation standards.
The inspection teams also guided butchers on BFA rules, food safety measures, and essential hygiene practices.
The Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) is the provincial regulatory body responsible for safeguarding public health by enforcing food safety and hygiene standards throughout Balochistan.
