QUETTA: According to government sources, the repatriation of Afghan refugees is still underway but remains incomplete due to ongoing Pakistan-Afghanistan tensions and border closures.
Officials revealed that so far, around 20 to 25 percent of Afghan refugees have returned to their homeland — primarily those residing in camps, makeshift huts, and temporary shelters.
Authorities stated that measures to improve border management have already been initiated, resulting in a noticeable increase in the pace of refugee repatriation, which is expected to accelerate further in the coming days.
As part of the government’s plan, the next phase will focus on Afghan refugees residing in urban areas, including those living in large houses, plazas, and other residential buildings.
Sources added that strict action will soon be taken against homeowners and shopkeepers who have rented out properties or commercial spaces to Afghan refugees.
This phase will be carried out through a well-organized operation to ensure the repatriation process remains transparent, efficient, and effective.
It is worth mentioning that Pakistan has a clear stance about the repatriation of the Afghan nationals.
Pakistan vows that keeping in view the ongoing law-and-order and the security situation in Pakistan, all the foreigner citizens including those from Afghanistan should make a safe and peaceful return to their countries.
Once such people are deported, the government and the concerned departments will look forward to launch the development projects in KP and Balochistan to raise development, employment and trade across these provinces.
Pakistan have hosted the Afghan nationals since Russia war back in 1980s.
Despite spending five long decades in Pakistan, the Afghan nationals have never expressed their gratitude for Pakistan and its people.
They have been involved not only in the criminal activities but also in the foreign funded militancy.
The Afghan government, despite Pakistan’s friendly move, have been backing militant attacks on the armed forces and the civilians in KP and Balochistan.
